Profile

Formation: GISA was formed almost 5 decades ago, by Mr. Gordhandas Gupta, an eminent stock broker and investor, Mr. Popatlal H. Khandwala, a leading stock broker, Prin. S. V. Desai, former Principal of H. L. College of Commerce and Prof. M. C. Kuchal, Prof. of Finance at IIM Ahmedabad, which is today headed by Shri Samir N. Patel as the president who is a leading businessman.

Guiding Objectives: To promote, protect and safeguard the rights and interest of shareholders, investors, and the investing public, to create and promote healthy and intelligent interest among investors in regard to their investments to organize and hold conferences, seminars, meetings and workshops for knowledge sharing, exchange of views and discussing matters concurring the welfare of shareholders and investors to collect, disseminate, publish and distribute from time to time statistical and other information to advance the interests of shareholders and investors or the objects of Association.

Vision of GISA

The vision of the founding fathers of GISA was as follows: GISA should become an institution serving the investor's community, sharing and spreading knowledge, help in resolving issues with various players in the capital market and protecting the investors' rights and interests. GISA should educate and make the investor's community aware of the different facets of the market so that they can make the right decisions to the best possible extent.

PRESENT SCENARIO

GISA is currently headed by President Mr. Samir N. Patel, a leading businessman engaged in various philanthropic activities as well.

Late Mr. Chinubhai R Shah, a well-known professional who led GISA for nearly 25 years was the President Emeritus of the Association.

Year 2011 had been historical for GISA as decisions had been taken to induct young generation in the day to day activities to make a vibrant impact and enlarge scope the of activities for making the association more effective towards investors’ protection.

Mr. Samir N. Patel has developed a team of vibrant enthusiasts having Lt. Col. Hasmukhbhai Patel as Vice President, Mr. Anand A. Shah, retired banker as Honorary Secretary, Mr. Amit V. Oza and Mr. Pranav Patel who are seasoned investors as Join Secretaries.

Recent History of GISA

Mr. Samir Patel is associated with GISA since 2005 as an Honorary Secretary. There after Mr. Samir Patel took over as the President of GISA in the year 2014 and has got vibrancy in the organization. He has created a great platform and environment for investors’ protection in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

After Founding President Prin. S. V. Desai, Capt. Balvant Bhatt took over the charge as President of the Association and Mr. Gordhandas Gupta was honorary Secretary of the association. There after in late 80s Mr. Chinubhai Shah took over as the President and rejuvenated the association with the induction of young professionals and active participation by senior members. Mr. Chinubhai Shah as the investors representative also served on the primary market committee, secondary market committee, stock option committee, Malegao committee, etc.

Supporting the initial activities of SEBI and actively taking part in rendering the investors grievances, GISA was one of the first to be recognized by SEBI and President and other office bearers attended most of the meetings of the GISA convened by SEBI. A good number of lectures, seminars and conferences were organized by the Association to educate and familiarize the investing public with the nuances of share market, stock exchanges and various instruments available in the market.

Prior to every budget the Association prepares a memorandum of suggestions for submission to the Finance Minister and for years together the Association strongly represented for the Abolition of Wealth Tax on the equity shares, which was finally accepted.
